AMATEUR
In Cuba, played as an amateur from youth to senior level with FC Sancti Spiritus… Was educated at EIDE Lino Salabarría in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, before going on to university… In 1997, completed a degree in physical education at Filial Universitaria in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.
INTERNATIONAL
Was proclaimed Player of the Year in Cuba in 1997... Played 24 games with the Cuban national team and scored 16 goals before obtaining Canadian citizenship... Contributed to Cuba’s qualifying campaign for the 1998 World Cup in France and the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in Oakland, California.
PROFESSIONAL
Kicked off his pro career in North America with the Impact in indoor soccer in the NPSL during the 1998-99 season… Made his USL debut with the Vancouver 86ers (now the Whitecaps) in 1999, collecting 18 goals and 10 assists to finish second in league scoring... Then joined Rochester in 2000, helping that team win the championship title… In 2001, played 16 games with Hersey… Then joined the Montreal Impact in 2002, where he played four seasons… That year, scored 18 goals, six game-winning goals, and received the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy, awarded to the Impact’s team MVP... In 2003, appeared in the first 20 games of Montreal's season before an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee ended his campaign on July 23… Finished third in club scoring with 15 points... After signing a new three-year contract with Montreal, helped the Impact to win the playoff championship in 2004… For the second time in three seasons, led the Impact in scoring with 19 points… Was the club’s top scorer in the playoffs with two goals and one assist for a total of five points… In 2005, suffered a series of injuries including a right-foot fracture, which limited his playing time… In 2006, was traded to Vancouver for Daniel Antoniuk… In 2006, Sebrango's season was disrupted by a broken foot injury… In the playoffs, played a crucial role in the Whitecaps run to the USL-1 championship title… Scored against the Impact in extra time of the semifinal series, second leg, on September 24… In 2007, despite missing 12 games during the regular season with a foot injury, finished the season as the Whitecaps’ top goal-scorer with seven goals... On November 7, Sebrango played 60 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS)… Played his fourth season in Vancouver in 2008, helping the team win another championship title… Finished third in the league with 27 points (12-3-27)… In the playoffs, helped the Caps by scoring the series-winning goal against the Impact in the semifinals, October 5, in Vancouver… The 10-year veteran in the USL D1 signed a two-year deal with Montreal on November 12, 2008… In his first game since his return to Montreal, scored the two Impact goals in a 2-0 win against Mexican Club Santos Laguna, February 25, 2009, in the first game of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal played at Olympic Stadium… Also scored in the away game of that series, March 5, in Torreon, Mexico.
2009 SEASON
Ended the season second to best points leader, with four goals and two assists for 10 points in 28 matches, 19 starts, and 1,697 minutes of play… Reached the 100 games played mark on July 25 in Austin…On September 9, during a game against Vancouver at Saputo Stadium, suffered a bone fracture of the right hand after falling on the ground… Played the remainder of the season with a cast…In five playoff games, tallied two goals and one assist for five points…Scored his first goal during the decisive match of the semifinals, against Puerto Rico, on October 4… Then registered his first career goal in a championship final during the first leg of the final against Vancouver, on October 10… Won his fifth career playoff championship, the second with the Impact. |
