THE IMPACT WILL PLAY AT OLYMPIC STADIUM ON FEBRUARY 25

PRESS RELEASE: January 8, 2009

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced Thursday that the Montreal soccer club will play its quarterfinal game of the CONCACAF Champions League at Olympic Stadium. For the first time in Quebec soccer history, an international game will be played in Montreal during the winter. This historic game against the Mexican club Santos Laguna will be played Wednesday, February 25, at 8 pm.

“We are thrilled with the positive outcome, since Olympic Stadium was the only viable option for this game to be played in Montreal,” said Executive Vice President of the Montreal Impact Richard Legendre. "I wish to thank the Régie des installations olympiques (RIO), Montréal's fire department and the Régie du bâtiment du Québec for their excellent collaboration regarding this matter.”

A new opening protocol of the main room at Olympic Stadium will make it possible to present events during the winter season, if three conditions are met: there should be no snow or ice accumulation on the roof at the beginning of the event; there should be no ice accumulation on the front of the Tower or on the suspension cables between the Tower and the roof; and 24 hours prior to the event, there should be no snowfall or freezing rain forecasted during said event.

According to meteorological data, it snowed only seven times in the last week of February, for the past six years, including 2008.

“We are highly confident that the game will be held February 25 because statistics show that these conditions have been respected 90% of the time,” said Richard Legendre.

Should the game be postponed, it would be held the following day, February 26, at the same time.

The Impact has set a 30,000 ticket sales objective for this historic game. Ticket sales will start Tuesday, January 13 at 9 am, through Admission (514-790-1245 / admission.com) or at the ticketing offices of Olympic Stadium and Saputo Stadium. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to select prime seating in a number of sections reserved in the stadium.

Ticket prices will vary from $10 to $35 (taxes included). VIP tickets will go for $50 in a few central sections and special group rates will also be available.

“Although this is a very special game, we wanted tickets to remain accessible for our fans and we also wanted to offer season ticket holders priority on seating,” added Richard Legendre. "Soccer fans will get to see a historic game, played in a unique setting, and at a very affordable cost.”

Under the theme “On February 25, the Impact is waiting for you!”, the Montreal club invites fans to show their colours during this memorable game by wearing blue.

The Impact made it to the quarterfinals by finishing second in group C of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, with a record of three wins, one loss and two ties.
